Yemen is currently facing a devastating crisis as severe flooding has struck the southern city of Hudaydah and nearby regions. In just a few days, heavy rains have submerged the area, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Dozens of people have tragically lost their lives, and hundreds more have been displaced from their homes, creating an urgent need for humanitarian aid.
Hudaydah's governor, Mugammad Qahim, has reported that at least 500 homes have been severely damaged, with some residents still missing. The situation extends beyond Hudaydah, with neighboring cities like Taiz and Hajjah also experiencing intense flooding that has destroyed many poorly-built homes.

Millions Affected By Aid Cuts
Yemen recently marked nine years of conflict, and the situation is extremely dire. Malnutrition is spiralling out of control and the recent cuts to humanitarian aid have had a devastating impact.
The prices of essential food items are skyrocketing, making it impossible for many families to afford even the most basic necessities for survival.
Since December 2023, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) has had to pause its general food distributions in northern Yemen, which used to be a lifeline for 9.5 million people. Additionally, the WFP's malnutrition prevention programme is facing severe shortages of supplies, which is affecting critical services.
